Elevator took place in the Ormond Multimedia Centre, an old printing works, demolished in the late 90s to make way for the Morrisson Hotel.

Elevator was my first ever big club night and I loved it. It was a mix of straight and queer punters, the spacious venue had an edgy post-industrial vibe and there was a real creative energy to each club night.

As far as I can tell, Elevator only ran a few club nights, starting on 23 Oct 1993. I have a somewhat ragged poster advertising the 3rd and 4th events, and then a mysterious credit-card sized flyer from 1997 with no venue information.

The Ormond Multi-Media Centre was also the venue for some queer-friendly nights called Madra Mór. I remember Madra Mór 3 because Anúna’s Celtic vocals didn’t go down well with the tanked-up crowd. Norman Cook, 2 years before he became Fatboy Slim, went down better.

All the Elevator flyers seem to have been designed by Niall Sweeney. For me they remain beautiful reminders of very special nights.
